STARTING OFF RIGHT IN LAW SCHOOL

OnLine E-Mail Law School Orientation Course
for Summer 1998
  • Do you know that having a high grade point average and a high L.S.A.T. score does not guarantee that you will do well in law school?

  • Do you know that you probably will get no feedback from your law school professors before the final exam?

  • Be aware that you will need to know much legal vocabulary and information about the legal system to understand your reading for the very first day of law school!

  • Don't wait for the shock of your first semester grades before realizing that you should have been better prepared.

Starting Off Right in Law School

What the course includes

Textbook: Starting Off Right in Law School .
In the first chapter of Dr. Nygren's book, you will follow the legal analysis done by two opposing lawyers as they evaluate their clients' cases and prepare for litigation. Subsequent chapters teach legal vocabulary, how to read cases, how to learn from casebooks, how to outline, and how to take exams.

Workbook
Your success on the L.S.A.T. required practice. Success on law school exams requires practice also. The workbook gives you practice materials so you will be ready to hit the ground running when you get to law school. The workbook will provide practice in reading cases efficiently, in taking notes on cases effectively, and in outlining (all the skills necessary to be prepared to write exams), and in taking exams. The workbook is not available in bookstores.

Feedback
One of the biggest complaints of law students is that there is no feedback in most courses before the final exam - and then it's too late. In this course you are encouraged to e-mail the instructor your responses to workbook assignments for individual commentary.
