The result of eight years of Nygren's work with first-semester students in five different law schools, this book melds information about the legal system usually found in legal methods books with information about study skills usually found in books with a "how to succeed in law school" focus.
The book uses one area of law - the implied warranty of merchantability as it applies to food - to illustrate various legal issues and the skills needed to master them. It introduces basic legal concepts and vocabulary in the context of one hypothetical case and then focuses on the structure of cases and types of reasoning courts use. When finished with the book, readers will have the background they need in order to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of legal materials. The book contains and introduction and the following chapters: The Sources of Law; The Stages of Trial and Bases of Appeals; Cases; Casebooks; Course Outlines; Law School Exams; and Where You are Now.

After an introductory chapter, "Contract Formation" discusses mutualassent, which includes offer, revocation, termination and acceptance. Ashort section on consideration and promissory estoppel completes ChapterTwo.
Chapter Three starts with a short introduction to the two sections ondefenses to contract. This subject is divided into defenses that were availableat the time of the making of the contract and those which became availableafter the time of the contract making. Chapter Four introduces the readerto multi-issue exam questions, and Chapter Five, "Remedies," includes moremulti-issue questions.
The organization of this book reflects the author's years of work withstudents and makes the book invaluable for use in study

As one of the volumes in an analysis series for first-year law subjectsby the same author of Starting Off Right in Law School, his book is designedto give students the foundation necessary for taking a course on propertylaw. It suggests organization, analysis and writing techniques that willbe helpful to the student just learning about property law.
After an introductory chapter, following chapters cover such topicsas adverse possession, easements, covenants, equitable servitudes, andimplied reciprocal covenants.
Each chapter begins with an explanation of the techniques used to analyzeproblems in a certain property topic, followed by a draft outline consistingof rule statements under which case information may be inserted to gaininsights about how these rules have been interpreted. This approach isdesigned to give students organization strategies rather than doctrine.
Organization of this book reflects the author's years of work with studentsin answering property exam questions and can be used by individuals orstudy groups for chapter reviews and exam preparation.

Like every title in the legal analysis series (Starting Off Right in...)by the same author, the book starts with a short introduction thatdiscusses how this subject matter is different from studying any othercourse. Chapter Two, "Intentional Torts," covers battery, assault, falseimprisonment, intentional infliction of severe emotional distress, anddefamation.
Chapter Three is a long chapter on negligence. Because professors maydevote as much as half a course to negligence, the author strives to pointout many problem areas in the subject. Chapter Four covers strict liabilitywith an emphasis on products liability. Chapter Five is a multi-issue fact-patternchapter with suggestions about how to practice handling the organizationalproblems of torts exams. The last chapter is a short one which provideshints on how to approach final exams.
