    Who Is Eligible To Vote in Maine<\/span>?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    The eligibility requirements<\/span> for voting in <\/span>Maine<\/span> are straightforward. You must be a citizen of the United States<\/span> and at least 18 years of age<\/span> on Election Day<\/span>. Maine<\/span> also has a voting residence<\/span> requirement. Under Maine<\/span> election<\/span> law<\/span>, you must also be\u00a0a resident of <\/span>Maine<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and the municipality<\/span> where you are registered to vote.<\/p>\n

    Maine<\/span> is one of only two states in the country that allow people with felony convictions<\/a> to vote while they are in prison. Inmates can register to vote in the town where they lived before they went to prison.<\/p>\n

    While Maine<\/span> election<\/span> law<\/span><\/a> allows people with felony convictions to vote, it does not allow people to vote if they are under guardianship due to mental illness unless specific conditions are met. Patients in psychiatric facilities can vote unless the facility\u2019s chief administrative officer determines otherwise.<\/p>\n

    If registered, 17-year-old U.S. citizens<\/span> can vote in a primary election<\/span> if they will be 18 before the state’s general election<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n
