Some states may require you to bring a\u00a0<span data-term-id=\"57328768\">photo ID<\/span>, while others accept non-<span data-term-id=\"57328768\">photo ID<\/span>. The following is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.findlaw.com\/voting\/how-do-i-protect-my-right-to-vote\/voter-suppression-and-voter-id-laws.html\"><u>general overview<\/u><\/a>\u200b of how these voter <span data-term-id=\"57328762\">ID requirements<\/span> differ:<\/p>\n<h3><strong><span data-term-id=\"57328768\">Photo ID<\/span> vs. Nonphoto ID States<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In states with strict voter <span data-term-id=\"57328762\">ID requirements<\/span>, you must present a specific identification card to vote. This is often a <span data-term-id=\"57328768\">photo ID<\/span>, such as a\u00a0<span data-term-id=\"57328750\">driver&#8217;s license<\/span>, passport, state ID, military ID, or similar document. Other states may be more flexible. Some accept your <span data-term-id=\"57328779\">Social Security<\/span> card, <span data-term-id=\"57328749\">voter registration<\/span> card, bank statement with your name and address, and other similar documents.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Strict vs. Non-Strict <span data-term-id=\"57328783\">Voter ID Laws<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Under strict <span data-term-id=\"57328783\">voter ID laws<\/span>, use a provisional ballot if you lack proper identification at the voting site. Election officers may also ask you to submit certain requirements after <span data-term-id=\"57328752\">Election Day<\/span>. For instance, <span data-term-id=\"57328754\">election officials<\/span> may ask you to return to the office and bring an acceptable <span data-term-id=\"57328793\">form of identification<\/span>. Some allow you to verify your identity by asking a poll worker to vouch for you. Absentee voting is a type of early voting. As an absentee voter, you can submit your <span data-term-id=\"57328788\">absentee ballot<\/span> in a drop box or by early mail.<\/p>\n<p>This option is often used by those who can&#8217;t vote on <span data-term-id=\"57328752\">Election Day<\/span>. This can include being out of state, illness, or disability that prevents you from going to the\u00a0<span data-term-id=\"57328789\">polling place<\/span>\u00a0<span data-term-id=\"57328753\">in person<\/span>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fvap.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>Military service members<\/u><\/a>\u200b and their families outside the U.S. can also vote via <span data-term-id=\"57328788\">absentee ballot<\/span>.
