Automatic emanicpation is one of two ways a minor is freed from parental control. The other method is through a successful petition in the appropriate state court. Minors who get married or joined the armed forces are automatically emancipated from their parent’s control. <\/p>\n\n <\/div>\n\n

When the word emancipation<\/a> is used legally, it typically means that a minor child is free from parental control. Before children reach the age of legal competence, they are subject to the control and custody of their parents \u2014 parents even have a right to minors’ earnings.<\/p>\r\n
