Amid increasing prison populations and a sharp rise in prisoner lawsuits in federal court, Congress passed the Prison Litigation Reform Act (PLRA) of 1995 to lighten the caseload for courts handling prisoner lawsuits. The Act imposes strict procedural requirements on inmates, making it harder to challenge conditions of confinement.<\/p>\n\n <\/div>\n\n\n\n
