Jails and prisons regularly perform strip searches on inmates. These searches help prevent drug trafficking, weapon trafficking, or contraband smuggling. Police can also perform a strip search as part of the arrest process. But, law enforcement must follow specific protocols to perform a valid strip search. <\/p>\n\n <\/div>\n\n\n\n

Strip searches implicate and can intrude upon basic human dignity. Everyone, including\u00a0detainees, has certain rights related to strip searches. Some\u00a0state laws<\/a>\u00a0require law enforcement to obtain written authorization to conduct a strip search.<\/p>\n
