After that, they must report immigrants living here illegally to federal immigration agencies. Included among these agencies are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscis.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ice.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/fbi.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>ICE also implemented the 287(g) program, working with the attorney general, FBI, and DHS. With this program, federal and local authorities work together to enforce immigration laws. They identify noncitizens and nonimmigrants in jails and prisons and check their immigration status.<\/p>\n<p>In 2017, the U.S. Government implemented similar &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/publications\/ice_-_secure_communities_fy_2020_q4.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Secure Communities<\/a>&#8221; measures through executive order. Secure Communities was a program implemented for law enforcement agencies to work together. One of its goals was to identify immigrants living here illegally who were arrested for criminal offenses.<\/p>\n<p>The Secure Communities program shared biometric information between the FBI and the DHS. This information-sharing scheme allowed them to verify the immigration status of arrested people. ICE would take the necessary steps if the person were an undocumented immigrant.<\/p>\n<p>Since revoking &#8220;Secure Communities,&#8221; state and federal law have implemented similar initiatives. This includes the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ice.gov\/identify-and-arrest\/criminal-apprehension-program#:~:text=The%20Criminal%20Apprehension%20Program%20%28CAP%29%20supports%20U.S.%20Immigration,communities%20and%20the%20integrity%20of%20U.S.%20immigration%20laws.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Criminal Apprehension Program<\/a>\u00a0(CAP). The program supports ICE in protecting the country from individuals threatening the U.S. communities. CAP focuses on arresting and identifying non-U.S. citizens arrested and criminal noncitizens.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"E-Verify\"><\/a>Oklahoma E-Verify Requirements<\/h2>\n<p>Public employers, contractors, and subcontractors must use the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.findlaw.com\/smallbusiness\/business-laws-and-regulations\/e-verify-basics.html\">E-Verify system<\/a>. <span data-sheets-root=\"1\">E-Verify is a federally-operated system that allows employers to verify that applicants are legally authorized to work in the U.S.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"Driver\"><\/a>Driver&#8217;s License and ID Requirements<\/h2>\n<p>Noncitizens in Oklahoma can <a href=\"https:\/\/oklahoma.gov\/service\/all-pages\/new-dl.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">get a driver&#8217;s license<\/a> if they have proof of legal presence (like a visa, I-94, or work permit) and proof of Oklahoma residency. They also must submit proof of identify and Social Security number. Immigrants without legal status are not eligible for an Oklahoma driver&#8217;s license or ID card at this time.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"Benefits\"><\/a>Public Benefits Restrictions<\/h2>\n<p>Federal law prohibits illegal immigrants from receiving\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.findlaw.com\/family\/child-support\/beyond-child-support-public-assistance.html\">most public benefits<\/a>. But, they can receive emergency services, health care, and other programs deemed &#8220;necessary to protect life and safety.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"Education\"><\/a>Education Checks and Tuition Costs<\/h2>\n<p>A growing number of states in the U.S. offer state financial aid to qualified students regardless of their immigration status. Oklahoma is one of the states that offers these benefits to students living here illegally.<\/p>\n<p>The policy aims to help young people brought into the U.S. illegally by their immigrant parents. For example, those with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.findlaw.com\/immigration\/deportation-removal\/what-is-deferred-action-for-childhood-arrivals-.html\">Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals<\/a> (DACA) status. These students can qualify for in-state tuition rates if they are Oklahoma residents.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"Voting\"><\/a>Voting ID Rules<\/h2>\n<p>In 2010, voters passed a controversial voter identification rule. While some have challenged the law in court several times, it\u00a0remains intact as of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governing.com\/archive\/gov-oklahoma-voter-id-supreme-court.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Supreme Court ruling in 2018<\/a>. Voters must have valid identification to vote. The document must show the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Name<\/li>\n<li>Photograph<\/li>\n<li>Date of issue<\/li>\n<li>Expiration date, unless the document is valid indefinitely<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A valid <a href=\"https:\/\/oklahoma.gov\/elections\/voters\/how-to-vote.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">voter registration card<\/a> may prove identification without meeting the above requirements.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"Housing\"><\/a>Housing Ordinances and Immigration<\/h2>\n<p>A person&#8217;s immigration status will not affect their rights to federal housing. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.findlaw.com\/civilrights\/discrimination\/fair-housing-federal-laws.html\">U.S. Fair Housing Act<\/a> prohibits\u00a0discrimination based on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Color<\/li>\n<li>Race<\/li>\n<li>National origin<\/li>\n<li>Religion<\/li>\n<li>Sex<\/li>\n<li>Familial status<\/li>\n<li>Disability<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Thus, most discrimination in housing is illegal, regardless of the person&#8217;s immigration status.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"Lawyer\"><\/a>Immigration Issue in Oklahoma?
