Oxycontin is a time-released opioid painkiller approved by the FDA in 1995 and marketed as a breakthrough treatment for chronic pain. However, its highly addictive nature\u2014often downplayed by the manufacturer\u2014has led to widespread misuse, addiction, and thousands of lawsuits.<\/p>\n\n <\/div>\n\n\n\n

Oxycontin<\/span> is a brand name for the generic opioid<\/span> painkiller<\/span> oxycodone<\/span>. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the drug in 1995.
