But the circumstances are different.<\/p>\n<p><span data-term-id=\"57213507\">Social Security Administration<\/span> (<span data-term-id=\"57213508\">SSA<\/span>) decision-makers often see a contradiction. After all, it seems like you\u2019d be claiming you both can and can\u2019t work. But these are separate programs. Collecting unemployment can jeopardize your <span data-term-id=\"57213509\">SSI<\/span>\/<span data-term-id=\"57213520\">SSDI<\/span><span data-term-id=\"57213520\"> benefits<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>There is an ongoing legislative attempt to prevent &#8220;double dipping.&#8221; This means collecting both <span data-term-id=\"57213515\">unemployment insurance<\/span> and <span data-term-id=\"57213510\">Social Security D<\/span><span data-term-id=\"57213506\">isability<\/span><span data-term-id=\"57213510\"> benefits<\/span> at the same time. But as of 2026, none of the proposed bills have become law.<\/p>\n<p>Usually, a person\u2019s <span data-term-id=\"57213503\">Social Security D<\/span><span data-term-id=\"57213533\">isability<\/span><span data-term-id=\"57213533\"> payments<\/span> are higher than their <span data-term-id=\"57213504\">unemployment <\/span><span data-term-id=\"57213535\">benefit<\/span><span data-term-id=\"57213535\"> amount<\/span>. <span data-term-id=\"57213520\">SSDI<\/span><span data-term-id=\"57213520\"> benefits<\/span> can also last longer depending on your condition and <span data-term-id=\"57213513\">eligibility<\/span>.
