As soon as we had phones, it seems we had annoying telemarketing calls as well. And while it may not feel like there are regulations keeping them from calling right in the middle of dinner, it turns out the Rocky Mountain State has extensive laws regulating telemarketers. This is a quick summary of telemarketing fraud laws in Colorado.<\/p>\n

Statutes Regulating Telemarketing<\/h2>\n

Colorado\u2019s Attorney General’s Office<\/a> regulates telemarketers operating in the state, including investigating telemarketing fraud and enforcing the state\u2019s telemarketing restrictions. Additionally, because many telemarketing calls are placed across state lines, telemarketing fraud<\/a> can also be a federal crime, investigated and prosecuted by the Federal Trade Commission<\/a> (FTC).<\/p>\n

What is Required or Prohibited?<\/b><\/p>\n<\/td>\n

COL. REV. STAT. \u00a76-1-303<\/a>: Commercial telephone sellers must register with the attorney general. Each registration is valid for one year.<\/p>\n

COL. REV. STAT. \u00a76-1-304<\/a>: The following are unlawful telemarketing practices:<\/p>\n

COL. REV. STAT. \u00a76-1-305<\/a>: Violating telemarketing laws is a Class 1 Misdemeanor, punishable by up to 18 months in jail, a $5,000 fine, or both.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>
