Like many jurisdictions in the country, D.C. has made preventing auto thefts a top priority by establishing a <a href=\"https:\/\/codes.findlaw.com\/dc\/division-i-government-of-district\/dc-code-sect-3-1352.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">motor vehicle prevention commission<\/a> focused on strategies related to awareness, law enforcement, prosecution, and juvenile intervention.<\/p>\r\n<p>Given this focus on auto theft prevention, it&#8217;s not surprising that any violation of D.C.&#8217;s auto <a href=\"https:\/\/www.findlaw.com\/criminal\/criminal-charges\/theft-overview.html\" target=\"_blank\">theft<\/a> laws is taken very seriously. An offender can face costly fines and incarceration.
