Marriage is a legal contract to which anyone over the age of majority is eligible, with some restrictions (for instance, a handful of states still do not recognize same-sex marriage). But state marriage laws<\/a> provide lower age limits for minors who would like to tie the knot, typically requiring the consent of each minor’s parent or legal guardian, while some states allow minors to marry with a court order under certain conditions. States place restrictions on marriage in order to ensure that each party is mature enough to make such an important commitment, while also discouraging "child brides" and other coerced unions.<\/p>\n

Marriage Age Requirements in Hawaii: Overview<\/h2>\n

Hawaii law is fairly straightforward: The minimum legal age for getting married in the Aloha State is 16 with a parent’s consent, while those as young as 15 may get married in certain circumstances with a court order. But no one under 15 may get married in Hawaii for any reason.<\/p>\n

The state of Hawaii allows couples wishing to get married or joined in a civil union to file for their license online<\/a>, which costs roughly $65. Both prospective spouses\/partners must appear together in person in order to complete the application process and obtain the license.
