Proving real harm is usually necessary to recover meaningful compensation for measurable losses, such as injuries and emotional distress.<\/p>\n<p>Most Section 1983 <span data-term-id=\"52845845\">police misconduct<\/span> claims center on <span data-term-id=\"52845854\">constitutional rights<\/span>. If this led to someone being wrongfully subjected to the legal process, the victim may have civil remedies available.<\/p>\n<p>These state claims can be brought alongside federal Section 1983 claims in the same lawsuit.<\/p>\n<h2>What About <span data-term-id=\"52845871\">Qualified Immunity<\/span>?<\/h2>\n<p>Most <span data-term-id=\"52845845\">police misconduct<\/span> lawsuits in <span data-term-id=\"52845842\">Illinois<\/span> are filed under Section 1983.
