Once used in a wide variety of industries as a versatile, relatively cheap, fire-resistant material, asbestos<\/a> also has the potential to cause serious and sometimes fatal illnesses. It is mainly found in older homes, schools, and other structures but typically remains hidden (and thus doesn’t pose a threat) unless it is removed and becomes airborne, where it can cause damage after being inhaled<\/a>. The naturally occurring mineral is no longer used in industry, but continues to be a problem because of its prior use.<\/p>\r\n

Asbestos Abatement Contractors<\/i><\/b> – Companies that remove, repair, or encapsulate asbestos-containing materials (ACM) must be licensed<\/a> to do this work and must be licensed before they do this work. The contractor must submit an application and pay a fee. The license is valid for one year and must be renewed annually.<\/p>\r\n
