The main idea behind child support is that all parents have a duty to financially support their children in proportion to their respective incomes. Nebraska child support<\/a> is meant to cover basic needs such as food, clothing, shelter, and medical services. The court may rule additional coverage for other needs as well.<\/p>\r\n

Joint, or shared, custody is the most common ruling for child care between parents who are no longer together. The amount of time each parent spends taking care of the child is factored in to calculating how much child support needs to be paid, and by which parent. These calculations are determined by the state’s child support guidelines.<\/p>\r\n

Child Support Guidelines in Nebraska<\/h2>\r\n

In Nebraska, the child support guidelines are presumed to be in the best interest of the child. Therefore, the court will order child support in accordance with the guidelines unless there is enough evidence to rebut this presumption. The court can deviate from the guidelines in the following circumstances:<\/p>\r\n
