Reporting Accidents<\/b><\/h3>\r\n

In New Jersey, automobile accidents must be reported if they cause injury, death, or over $500 in property damage<\/a>. The accident must also be reported to local law enforcement authorities.<\/p>\r\n

If law enforcement officers are not called to the scene of the accident and property damage is the only result, you’re required to file an accident report<\/a> with the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) Agency within 10 days of the accident.<\/p>\r\n

If the police respond to the accident and fill out a police report, you are not required to fill out a report for the MVC.<\/p>\r\n

Required Auto Insurance<\/b><\/h3>\r\n

All New Jersey drivers must have car insurance<\/a> on any vehicle they’re driving. All vehicles registered in New Jersey require three types of mandatory auto insurance.<\/p>\r\n
