New York, home to a teeming metropolis of 8 million people, has specific laws when it comes to landlords and tenants, real estate and property.  For instance, a landlord in New York doesn\u2019t have a set deadline as to when to return a renter\u2019s security deposit.  Most states require this to be done in 14 or 30 days. No such requirement in the Empire State. Instead, a landlord must return the tenant’s security deposit within \u201ca reasonable time\u201d after the tenant has surrendered the rental.
