States are responsible for regulating gambling within their boundaries, which may include casinos, horse tracks, or other venues. North Carolina’s gambling laws are relatively strict and prohibit most forms of gambling with the exception of casinos on Indian reservations. Additionally, the state allows bingo and raffles if they are sponsored by nonprofit organizations.<\/p>\n

Operating a game of chance or playing at or betting on any game of chance at which money, property, or other thing of value is bet, whether the same be in stake or not.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>

The following gambling-related activities are banned by state law:<\/p>\n

  • Pyramid and chain schemes (section 14-291.2);<\/li>\n
  • Allowing gambling in houses of public entertainment (section 14-293);<\/li>\n
  • Faro banks and tables (section 14-294);<\/li>\n
  • Possession and operation of gaming tables, punchboards, slot machines (sections 14-295 through 14-297).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>

Other Kinds of Gambling-Related Activities Allowed <\/b><\/p>\n<\/td>\n

Casinos are allowed on Indian reservations only and must be operated in compliance with the Tribal-State Gaming Compact.<\/p>\n
