It’s a great time to be in Columbus. The economy is doing well, the press has been recognizing us for our achievements, and the Buckeyes are bowl eligible. The Columbus Area is thriving, and that means government services will be at peak performance (hey, we can hope). In any event, the region’s courts are still open, and are as numerous as ever. This guide is here to help you make sure that you can find the correct facility and handle your business when you get there.<\/p>\n

Many of your typical court matters involving individuals will begin in the Municipal or County Court. In the Columbus Area, each of the counties has a municipal court that rules in misdemeanor and traffic violation cases, as well as civil matters with up to $15,000 at issue. Additionally, the Ohio Constitution creates a Court of Common Pleas in each county. They oversee felony cases, civil cases with more than $15,000 at issue, probate cases, and other matters not handled by Municipal and County Courts.     This court building is also known as the Franklin County Hall of Justice. Courthouse visitors are encouraged to park at the S. Front Street Parking Garage a block away.     Also located in the Franklin County Court House<\/a>, the Domestic Relations Division handles divorce, annulment, dissolution, and legal separation actions.     The Juvenile Division (Tel: (614) 525-4411) handles many types of cases involving minors including: delinquency, abuse, neglect, and custody, and child support. Consequently, there are several other county agencies that may also work on your case.     Ohio’s Supreme Court is the "court of last resort." It may assert its jurisdiction in a number of ways, but most commonly hears cases that have been appealed from the court of appeals. Visitors may park a block north in the LeVeque Tower Parking Garage. Many of the court’s visitors come from all over Ohio.
