But what if we find out that\u2019s not the case? Do we report on company misconduct and risk getting reprimanded or fired? Fortunately for us, the Beaver State has laws in place protect employees who report fraud or illegal conduct in the workplace. This is a brief overview of \u201cwhistleblower\u201d laws in Oregon.<\/p>\n<h2>Whistleblower Laws<\/h2>\n<p>State <a href=\"https:\/\/www.findlaw.com\/state\/employment-laws\/details-on-state-whistleblower-laws.html\">&quot;whistleblower&quot; laws<\/a> prohibit employers from retaliating against employees who report illegal, dangerous, or otherwise unethical business practices. In addition to state protections, the federal government has safeguards as well. The False Claims Act allows <a href=\"https:\/\/www.findlaw.com\/employment\/whistleblowers\/whistleblower-protections-in-qui-tam-actions.html\">whistleblowers who believe their company has defrauded the government<\/a> to file what are known as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.findlaw.com\/employment\/whistleblowers\/qui-tam-actions.html\">qui tam actions<\/a>\u201d reporting the fraud and remain safe from employer retaliation. The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 also protects <a href=\"https:\/\/www.findlaw.com\/smallbusiness\/employment-law-and-human-resources\/whistleblower-retaliation-could-land-you-in-trouble.html\">whistleblowers in cases of securities, shareholder, and other kinds of fraud<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Oregon Whistleblower Laws: Related Resources<\/h2>\n<p>Understanding state and federal employment law can be a challenge.
