Austin, the capital of Texas. It\u2019s the cultural, technological, and economic mecca of the American Southwest. Boasting a population of just over 850,000, Austin is the 11th largest city in the United States and is the third fastest growing city in the nation.<\/p>\r\n

The city is notable for many things—liberal politics (much to the disdain of many Texans), the Colorado River, Willie Nelson<\/a>, South by Southwest<\/a>, the Whole Foods Market headquarters<\/a>, and the Texas Longhorns<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n

If you are an "Austinite" with a court case in Travis County, you know there are a myriad of courthouses servicing the five-county Austin-Round Rock<\/a> metropolitan area. If you have a criminal, civil, family law or probate matter, it\u2019s likely in one of the district, county, or associate courts.<\/p>\r\n

Here\u2019s we\u2019ve highlighted six key court systems you\u2019ll most likely encounter: the Travis County District, County, and Associate courts<\/a>, the Court of Appeals for the Third District of Texas at Austin,<\/a> the Court of Criminal Appeals<\/a>, the Supreme Court of Texas,<\/a> U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Texas<\/a>, U.S District Court for the Western District of Texas<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n

    Probate Court<\/a><\/h3>\n

    Probate court handles wills of deceased persons, declares the heirs of deceased persons who die without a will, establishes guardianships for incapacitated persons and minors, supervises court-ordered involuntary mental health commitments, and administers all eminent domain cases initiated in Travis County.<\/p>\n

    Probate court also hears lawsuits related to an estate of a decedent or ward and by or against a personal representative of a decedent\u2019s or ward\u2019s estate.<\/p>\n
