Common criminal activities in which money laundering can occur are drug transactions, activities linked to terrorism, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.findlaw.com\/criminal\/criminal-charges\/drug-cartels-and-organized-crime.html\" target=\"_blank\">organized crime<\/a>. As with most states, Washington considers money laundering to be a serious crime.<\/p>\r\n<h2>Washington Money Laundering Laws: Definitions<\/h2>\r\n<p>First and foremost, it&#39;s important to understand that in order to violate Washington&#39;s money laundering laws, a person must have knowledge that the property they&#39;re transferring was obtained illegally. For example, a person who receives a gift without any knowledge that the gift was bought with money that was laundered wouldn&#39;t be in violation of Washington money laundering laws.<\/p>\r\n<p>In order to better understand Washington money laundering laws, you&#39;ll need to know definitions of the following key terms:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><b><i>Financial transaction<\/i><\/b>: any sale, purchase, gift, transfer, loan, trade, deposit, withdrawal, extension of credit, or any other acquisition or disposition of property.<\/li>\r\n<li><b><i>Conducting a financial transaction<\/i><\/b>: initiating, concluding, or participating in a financial transaction.<\/li>\r\n<li><b><i>Specified unlawful activity<\/i><\/b>: an offense that&#39;s classified as a Class A or B felony in Washington, an offense listed as &quot;<a href=\"https:\/\/codes.findlaw.com\/wa\/title-9a-washington-criminal-code\/wa-rev-code-9a-82-010.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">criminal profiteering<\/a>,&quot; or an offense in another state or federal jurisdiction that&#39;s punishable by more than one year in prison.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h2>Washington Money Laundering Laws: An Overview<\/h2>\r\n<p>When you have a question about the law, the best place to look is the law itself.
