USPS Increasing Postal and Shipping Prices May 12 and Offering Shippers Discounts When Buying Select Postage Online

PALO ALTO, Calif., March 17, 2008 -- The United States Postal Service (USPS) has announced an increase in postal prices, to take effect May 12. For consumers and businesses that frequently use the USPS for shipping, the good news is that there will be savings for those who purchase postage online through authorized PC Postage vendors like Endicia. In response to the rate increase, Endicia, a USPS-approved online postage vendor, is announcing that its full line of Internet Postage shipping solutions will be updated and streamlined to support the new prices.

Endicia Shipping is ideal for online sellers, fulfillment providers, and retailers with lightweight shipping needs--for instance, eBay sellers, jewelry dealers and resellers, clothing retailers, toy retailers and more.

"We are very pleased that the price increase offers savings for online shipping. Our customers won't miss a beat in shipping operations because Endicia Shipping automatically interprets and incorporates the price change," said Harry Whitehouse, Endicia Chief Development Officer. "Not only are our package shippers ready for the new price structure, Endicia is ready to provide a smooth and easy transition."

On May 12, when the new prices are implemented, Endicia's software will seamlessly switch to the new price system and online postage discounts. According to the USPS announcement, the following highlights are important for shippers to know:

  • Express Mail is switching to a zone-based pricing system, resulting in customers paying less for nearby destinations. Customers will receive a 3 percent price reduction by purchasing Express Mail online or through corporate accounts.
  • Priority Mail will have an average 3.5 percent savings for customers who use electronic postage or meet other requirements.

The Postal Service's online discounts underscore how shipping online with Endicia saves valuable time, while giving the customer more control without many administrative hassles.

Express Mail shippers will also enjoy how Endicia simplifies purchasing postage for the new zone-based system.
