Block on Trump's Asylum Ban Upheld by Supreme Court
Alexis Wright's client list from her Zumba studio turned brothel has been published and includes several prominent Maine citizens. Suffice to say, a lot of men in Kennebunk are feeling uneasy today.
As part of the investigation and trial against Alexis Wright, police released a list of her alleged prostitution clients on Tuesday. The full list purportedly contains 150 names but only 21 were released since those are the people involved in the court case.
But the short list still contains some important names in the community, including that of the former mayor of South Portland, a lawyer, and a local businessman.
The men whose names were released are those who have been or will be charged for participating in prostitution. But without other identifiers, it's also affected innocent people.
For former mayor James Soule, there's little chance of confusion since his last name is unusual. But another name on the list, Paul Main, is shared by at least 20 other people in Maine besides the alleged client, reports the Associated Press.
A man not implicated in the suit but also named Paul Main spent a few days after the list was released clearing himself to the public.
While some are unhappy that the names were released like this, the information was already public. Court filings and documents are public records including the names of defendants in criminal cases.
The names of children are often redacted to protect their identities. But all the men implicated in the case are adults so their names were public from the time they were charged.
The trial has only just started so the men named are still only suspects and innocent until proven guilty. But that doesn't mean they don't feel the sting of public scrutiny.
Wright and her alleged accomplice, Mark Strong, are accused of running a prostitution business out of Wright's Zumba studio and nearby office. The case has brought a lot of attention to a little town in Maine that normally stays under the radar.
