Block on Trump's Asylum Ban Upheld by Supreme Court
The B-list actress behind the IMDb lawsuit has revealed her name: Huang Hoang. Hoang, who goes by the stage name Junie Hoang, is 40 years old.
She sued after IMDb published her birthdate and real name.
Hoang kept her birthdate private in order to have more of a chance at securing younger roles. She also went by the more Westernized moniker of "Junie Hoang" to avoid potential discrimination or disadvantage.
After she sued anonymously last year, the case was dismissed. But Hoang re-filed last Friday, according to the New York Daily News.
She seeks $1 million in punitive damages because Amazon's IMDb website breached her privacy. Partly, Hoang claims that Amazon found her real birthdate by using credit card information. She submitted her credit card to the website after registering for a section of it in 2008.
There are several different forms of invasion of privacy. One form is when a defendant publicly discloses private facts about the plaintiff. Defendants can be held liable if the information revealed is not of public concern and would be offensive to the reasonable person if made public.
Another form of invasion of privacy occurs when a defendant intrudes on the plaintiff's solitude or private affairs. Snooping through private documents -- like credit card information -- could qualify.
It's unclear what legal claim was alleged in Hoang's complaint. But it could be problematic if Amazon did intercept her private credit card information.
Apparently, Huang Hoang hasn't filed the first IMDb lawsuit. Amazon previously settled with another actress, Eriko Tamuro. In that case, Amazon also revealed her age and real name.
