Former Voice of 'Dora the Explorer' Settles Nickelodeon Lawsuit
Former voice of "Dora the Explorer," Caitlin Sanchez, settles her Nickelodeon lawsuit. Now here's a quick recap of what exactly she was settling in the first place: Sanchez served as the voice of the hit cartoon character since 2007. She sued Nickelodeon alleging that the company took advantage of her and ultimately cheated her out of millions of dollars. Sanchez reached puberty far before her cartoon likeness did, signifying the end of her time with the cartoon show.
The crux of the original "Dora the Explorer" lawsuit was that she was owed a large amount for "Dora the Explorer" reruns and the many promotional events she attended throughout the years. The young actress also claimed that she (by way of her mother) only had 22 minutes to read the jargon-filled terms of her contract with the company.
As with so many high-profile lawsuits and eventual resolutions, much more is known about the "Dora the Explorer" lawsuit than the actual resolution. The real winner in this case seems to be the young fans of the hit show as Caitlin will resume her role for the remainder of her contract with Nickelodeon.
"After discussion, the suit has been withdrawn. We have always felt, and continue to feel that Caitlin is a very talented performer. Our intention was always that Caitlin complete the episodes on which she worked and we are pleased that she has decided to do so," ABC News quotes Nickelodeon spokesperson David Bittler.
Left out of the statement was any mention of how much Sanchez may have been offered to continue with the company and to drop her suit. Perhaps this has something to do with the dirty laundry Sanchez's lawyer threatened to air when the initial suit took a turn for the mudslinging.
