Jersey Shore: Angelina Sued for Casino Attack

By Jason Beahm on January 13, 2011 | Last updated on March 21, 2019

Those nice kids from New Jersey are in trouble again. This time, it's Jersey Shore's Angelina Pivarnick, who is being sued over an alleged assault on a woman before a celebrity boxing match in New Jersey at the Trump Taj Mahal Hotel and Casino.

According to the alleged victim, Melissa Mayne, she was leaving the Trump Taj Mahal when she encountered Angelina Pivarnick who was on her way to box in the celebrity match. Mayne alleges that Angelina "suddenly grabbed her, struck her in the face, threw a glass in her face and grabbed her cell phone and threw it to the ground," TMZ reports.

Traditionally, assault is the threat of imminent bodily harm that causes the reasonable apprehension of harm in the victim. By contrast, battery is the unwanted touching of another person in a painful, harmful, violent, or offensive way. Many states no longer make the distinction between the two crimes and simply charge them as assault and battery.

Mayne's attorneys seem to be going after deep pockets as well, they are also suing the Trump Taj Mahal, because the fight allegedly happened in front of hotel and casino security guards who did nothing to stop Angelina from attacking Mayne. She is suing for unspecified damages.

Angelina says that she believes that she was set up in order to stage a lawsuit: "That night I feel I was provoked, taunted, and harassed into a fight," she said, TMZ reports.

TMZ has a video of the tail end of the altercation, which begins just as the fight is broken up. However, Angelina Pivarnick can be seen on video throwing a cell phone across the room and can apparently be heard yelling, "What are you going to do? Yeah, I ripped your F---ing hair B----." That may not be especially helpful to her defense.
