Sweet Leaf Teas Recalls 1.5 Million 16-Ounce Bottles
Stop, don't swallow that bottled beverage just yet! The Sweet Leaf Tea Company is recalling 1.5 million bottles of its flavored teas after four customers complained they found glass in their drinks.
No one was hurt and the recall is voluntary. Sweet Leaf spokeswoman Jane Lazgin told NBC News that the company received the first complaint in July "and believed it to be an isolated incident until hearing from three others more recently." As a result, it is taking precautions to get the tea off the market.
The Critical Details
"We felt it was prudent to recall the product to assure that Sweet Leaf is a safe and high quality tea," the company spokeswoman said. She added that Sweet Leaf believes that the potentially problematic bottles are already out of the marketplace.
Nonetheless, the company is recalling 16-ounce bottles of flavored iced tea, with specific production codes, as they may be dangerous. The suspect teas were all produced between February 27 and December 6 of this year.
The list of affected teas is varied and includes a lemonade blend. So, fans of the fruity -- raspberry, peach, lemon, and citrus -- as well as classics, like green tea and mint, should all check to ensure before drinking. Although the possibility of finding glass fragments is reportedly very slight, take a moment to glance at the manufacturing date on your bottle before chugging.
To find the manufacturing date and best by date of a bottle, Sweet Leaf advises consumers to look for the manufacturing code on the shoulder of a bottle or on the shipping case.
