A federal judge in Arizona blocked the most controversial portion of
Arizona's new immigration law from going into effect until after the
conclusion of a lawsuit by the federal government challenging the law,
S.B. 1070. The judge ruled that the United States was likely to win its
lawsuit concerning the portion of the law that requires police officers
to check the immigration status of anyone they reasonable suspect of
being in the country illegally. The judge declined to block other
sections of the law, however, after determining that the United States
was not likely to win its lawsuit in regards to those portions of the
law. Arizona Immigration Lawsuit: Court Blocks Portion of Arizona's Immigration Law
