Infamous NY EMT Jason Green Killed

By Tanya Roth, Esq. on July 20, 2010 | Last updated on March 21, 2019

Embattled New York EMT Jason Green was shot and killed on July 21 after a fight outside a New York nightclub. The paramedic was known for the refusal of he and his partner to help a pregnant woman who collapsed in a restaurant they were in during a break. The woman later died and the two NY EMTs' were suspended without pay for their actions, but later reinstated. Charges have not yet been filed.

The original controversy surrounding Green took place in an Au Bon Pain coffee shop last December 9, according to the Associated Press. Allegedly, a pregnant cashier, Eutisha Rennix, collapsed. Witnesses claimed Green and his partner Melissa Jackson, left without doing anything to help.

At this time, officials believe Green's shooting has nothing to do with the death of Ms. Rennix. The AP reports that after a friend was turned away from a night club, he and Green were standing outside, talking to two women. A car pulled up and attempted to park where they were standing. This caused an argument which resulted in a fight between Green and one of the men in the car. One man pulled a gun and shot Green before fleeing in the car.

Jason Green was declared dead shortly after he arrived at New York Downtown Hospital.

According to the New York Daily news, investigators believe the shooter who fired twice into Green's torso was not the same person involved in the fistfight with Green, police said. There are currently no arrests.

The AP writes that in an interview this year with The New York Times, Green and Jackson said that Rennix's co-workers never made clear there was an emergency, and that Jackson called a dispatcher for help before they went back to work.
