Block on Trump's Asylum Ban Upheld by Supreme Court
A University of Maryland, College Park student was arrested after allegedly posting online threats about a school "shooting rampage," police said.
Alexander Song, 19, of Fulton, Md., was taken to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation after his arrest Sunday morning -- just hours before the alleged school shooting was supposedly set to take place, The Baltimore Sun reports.
"Stay away from the Mall tomorrow [Sunday] at 1:30," Song wrote on a website, according to police. Other comments allegedly said, "I will be on a shooting rampage tomorrow on campus" and "Hopefully I kill enough people to make it to national news."
It's not clear where Alexander Song posted his alleged school-shooting threats, but the comments turned up on the popular social news-sharing website Reddit.com, the Sun reports.
A former University of Maryland student saw the threats on the social sharing website Reddit and informed the school. Two other concerned Internet users also contacted the school after apparently chatting with Song via the website Omegle.com, reports the Sun.
Police arrested Song on campus about 10 a.m. Sunday. Song was not armed, and "it appears he does not have access to weapons," a University of Maryland police spokesman told the Sun.
Song does not have any previous problems at the school, the police spokesman said. A school website says Song is scheduled to graduate in 2014, The Huffington Post reports.
Alexander Song faces a misdemeanor charge of disturbing the orderly conduct of the activities, administration or classes in connection with his alleged school-shooting threat, police said. If convicted, Song faces up to six months in jail and a $2,500 fine.
