NV IHOP Shooting: 5 National Guards Shot
Five active duty members of the Nevada National Guard are listed as victims of today's Carson City, Nevada IHOP shooting, which left a total of three dead and 7 wounded.
Dressed in their uniforms and meeting for a 9 a.m. breakfast, local resident Eduardo Sencion entered the premises, shooting aimlessly, before leaving and shooting himself, the AP reports.
He eventually died from the self-inflicted gunshot wound.
At this point, little is known about the 32-year-old Sencion, who the Associated Press reports has no known affiliations with the military or anyone who was inside the IHOP.
The Guards, two of which were killed, may have simply been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Investigators are still piecing together the details, though.
Witnesses from outside the restaurant describe the minutes before and after the Nevada IHOP shooting as slightly bizarre.
Sencion reportedly pulled up, exited his minivan with a rifle, and then proceeded to shoot a man on a nearby motorcycle, according to Reuters. He then entered the IHOP, shot a number of rounds, left, and began shooting into other businesses located in the same strip mall.
Police are still determining what led to Sencion's rampage and whether or not he targeted the local IHOP and strip mall for a reason. It's not known if he targeted a specific person or not.
As with all tragic incidents, in due time, these facts will emerge, painting a picture of the events that led up to the Nevada IHOP shooting. And hopefully, at that point, there will be something to useful to learn and take into the future.
