As previously discussed, in California voters may soon have their say about the legalization of marijuana.
Recently, about 700,000 signatures have been collected through a legal petition drive to put the issue on the November 2010 California ballot.
The initiative, known as the Regulate, Control and Tax Cannabis Act of 2010 would allow cities and counties to adopt their own laws to allow marijuana to be grown and sold. It also would make it legal for anyone 21 and older to possess an ounce of marijuana and impose taxes on marijuana production and sales.
Polls have shown that a majority of California voters support the legalization of marijuana, as previously discussed. According to a Field Poll taken in mid-April 56% of voters in the state and 60% in Los Angeles County want to legalize and tax pot as a way to help solve the state's fiscal crisis.
Police say the marijuana found inside the Van Nuys warehouse had a street value of about $100,000. The operation could have net $5-$6,000 a pound and over 200 plants.
Police also seized six weapons from inside the warehouse. So far, one man is in custody after the pot bust.
