Block on Trump's Asylum Ban Upheld by Supreme Court
An undercover police officer was arrested Tuesday in connection with a biker assault on an SUV driver that was caught on video.
Police arrested Detective Wojciech Braszczok, 32, for his alleged involvement in the biker incident, according to New York's WABC-TV. Braszczok was charged with "riot and criminal mischief."
Braszczok was under scrutiny for allegedly not immediately reporting the assault to Internal Affairs, and for allegedly not telling the truth about his role in the attack.
Tuesday's arrest was precipitated on the release of a new video showing Braszczok smashing in the SUV's rear hatchback window, "an act that contradicted his prior accounts in which he claimed he drove away" to avoid "blowing his cover," WABC-TV reports.
You can see the newly released video here:
Based on these allegations, there seems to be a decent case against Braszczok for riot in the first degree, as he and other bikers allegedly participated in causing damage to Alexian Lien's car and injury to Lien's person.
In addition, by breaking the back window of Lien's vehicle with no justifiable reason for doing so, Braszczok could potentially be found guilty of criminal mischief in the third degree.
Both of these crimes can result in felony convictions, and without some sort decent legal defense, the undercover cop may be spending time behind bars -- with people he helped to put in prison.
According to WABC, Braszczok was not the only officer that investigators believe was present during the assault on Lien, and the conduct of two other officers is "being probed."
Police have also released photos of four more suspects wanted in the beating, but arrests have yet to be made.
A grand jury has been convened to hear evidence regarding the SUV attack, and WABC reports that it will include Lien making a statement to prosecutors. This may ultimately result in more criminal charges being filed as more suspects are arrested.
