Judge Arthur J. Gajarsa Retires from Federal Circuit
Judges come and judges go. And this time, it was Judge Arthur J. Garjasa's turn to bid the Federal Circuit farewell as he announced his retirement from the bench.
Judge Gajarsa was already on senior status with the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals so his announcement does not create a vacancy on the court. The announcement was made on June 30, 2012. In his parting message, Judge Gajarsa had this to say:
"My success and the success of the court are attributable not only to my judicial colleagues, but also to the fine members of the court team."
Judge Gajarsa had a long and distinguished career in the judiciary. He has been on the Federal Circuit bench since 1997, when he was appointed by President Bill Clinton. Judge Gajarsa's pre-judicial career included working at the Department of Commerce, Department of the Interior and Department of Defense. He clerked for the Honorable Judge Joseph C. McGarraghy from 1967-1968.
As Judge Gajarsa steps down from judicial office, he isn't fading out of the picture just yet. Supreme Industries announced that Judge Gajarsa will be joining the Board of Directors. Supreme Industries is a manufacturer of specialized commercial vehicles, including armored vehicles.
He will be serving on the company's compensation committee and will be receiving the same compensation as the other non-employee directors, as reported in a press statement by Supreme Industries.
This isn't his first board appointment. Judge Gajarsa has also been a member of the Board of Directors of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Georgetown University. He earned degrees from both schools-- a BSEE from Rensselaer and a JD from Georgetown.
