Panel to Ride Circuit, Discuss Splits at Denver Law October 4

By Robyn Hagan Cain on September 14, 2012 12:57 PM

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office isn't the only IP-loving panel to hit the road this fall: The Federal Circuit Court of Appeals will also be taking its act on the road in October.

The appellate court is scheduled to "ride circuit" and hear oral arguments at the Sturm College of Law at the University of Denver on October 4.

The court will consider five cases during the Denver Law hearing:

  • Future Logic v. Nanoptix
  • Smets v. Navy
  • In Re: Collen IP
  • EIT Holdings v. Yelp
  • Herrera v. DHS

Oral arguments will begin at 10:00 am MST in Room 165 at the Sturm College of Law.

After oral arguments, Denver Law will host "Patent Perspectives from the Inside," a conference to bring judiciary and in-house council patent experts together to discuss specific issues in patent law. The conference will be divided into two 75-minute panel discussions.

From 2:15 to 3:30 pm MST, federal circuit judges will lead, "Addressing Splits within the Federal Circuit," a discussion about how the 12-member Federal Circuit deals with differences of opinions within the court. The panel will be moderated by Denver Law Assistant Professor Bernard Chao.

From 3:45 to 5:00 pm MST, in-house counsel from leading technology companies will be discussing "Cease and Desist Letters: The Law and The Tactics." Panelists include Cynthia Bright of HP, Aaron Brodsky from Oracle, Chris Byrne of Tessera Technologies, and Stephen Perkins from Covidien. This panel will be moderated by Professor Tim Holbrook from Emory University School of Law.

CLE credits for the conference are pending. You can register for the panels here.

The Sturm College of Law is located at 2255 East Evans Avenue in Denver, Colo.
