Georgetown: The Most Popular Law School for Applicants
The list of top schools for law school applications was released and the list was notable as the most popular law schools all seem to be centered in the D.C. region.
The top two schools on the list were Georgetown and George Washington. The University of Virginia was also in the top five and American University ranked number nine. Georgetown topped the list by a wide margin, reports U.S. News and World Report.
Given all the negative things we've seen for reasons not to go to law school, one may be able to glean some useful information from the list of top law schools for applicants. Because after all, there must be something to make a law school the most popular law school.
Where the Jobs Are At
Washington D.C. is the seat of the federal government so it does offer some benefits over other cities in the amount of federal jobs you can find. As top firm jobs are becoming increasingly difficult to find, top law school applicants may be applying to schools like Georgetown to get an inside track on working for the government.
D.C. is an Extension of Law School
You'll probably not find another city with such a high concentration of young, single, successful attorneys. So if you're looking to meet a wealth of lawyer connections at a random bar, there may be no better place to start than by going to school in Washington D.C.
Schools are Attainable
Harvard, Stanford, and Yale all did not make the top ten list. The reality is that not that many people can get accepted into the top of the list schools. However, for a school like Georgetown, it can attract the very best and brightest as well as those just a notch below and those just dreaming. The same can be said for George Washington as a dream school for applicants looking to get into a school ranked in the 20s, 30s, and 40s. And American University would appeal to those on a slightly lower tier.
The top schools for law school applications was released and you can make what you want of the list. What led to Georgetown becoming the most popular law school may have actually been the simple fact that they recruited the hardest.
