Block on Trump's Asylum Ban Upheld by Supreme Court
An attorney in Gainesville, Florida, has, rather strategically, tailored his ads to appeal to a decidedly counter-culture target audience. Specifically, he targeted the youth at Gainesville's yearly punk event, the Fest, by posting flyers around the event with the words, "Arrested during The Fest?"
Is this genius lawyer marketing, or is it ambulance chasing?
Romain Jeanticou sat down with Juan C. Calama, an attorney who practices in Gainesville Florida. Jeanticou asked Calama about the latter's fliers which were strategically placed all over the city in time with Gainesville's notorious punk music festival. And he didn't opt for a splashy billboard either.
All of Calama's ads are essentially shout-out flyers with tear-off info slips at the bottom that is reminiscent of old school flyers that students tape up when searching for roommates. Now that's cheap advertising.
Given the circumstances under which Calama's clients will need him most, he reveals that many of his clients have a tendency to talk too much when dealing with law enforcement; and talking too much can only make things worse. Calama can expect the usual punk festival legal issues: drug possession and use, simple battery, possession of alcohol in public places, DUI, and urinating in public. If nothing else, the work sure doesn't sound boring.
Camala has considered notecard-sized flyers that clients can hand out to LEO in the event of a potential encounter. If this sounds familiar, it's because something similar was also tried by Florida's drivers. Now if only these festival goers can keep their mouths shut!
Depending on your practice, Camala's flyer trick actually might work for you, too. Admittedly, the look of a photocopied ad stapled atop a poster announcing an event in someone's basement isn't the most august way to advertise one's business, but it can probably lead to phone calls.
