Newburgh Courthouses

Newburgh is a city prideful of its colonial history, as it is the small-town that General George Washington used as his headquarters during the revolutionary war. In addition to its rich history, the “Crossroads of the Northeast” is known for many other things -- a top-notch motorcycle museum, the beautiful Hudson River, and a picturesque landscape filled with farms for apple picking or lakes for fishing.

If you’re a resident of Orange County, you know there are several of courthouses in the area. If you have a criminal, civil, probate or family law matter, it’s probably in the Supreme or Surrogate’s Court.

    Parking: Parking and handicapped parking are available in the municipal lot. Bus service is very limited. The Shortline Bus Service drops you off in the Village of Goshen, which is a mile from the Court. The Metro North Train Station is further than a mile from the Court.

    Note: Unlike most states, The Supreme Court in New York is the trial court. Most criminal and civil matters will be heard here.

    Note: The Surrogate's Court hears cases involving the affairs of decedents, including the probate of wills and the administration of estates.
