Since 1997, the Lead Counsel Rating has been available for free to attorneys who have demonstrated the following three requirements:

Once Verified, attorneys may use the Lead Counsel Rating in all marketing materials.

Verification Process

In order to earn the Lead Counsel Rating, an attorney must not only demonstrate significant legal experience, but must also receive multiple peer recommendations advocating his or her ability. This is a key component in the screening process. Additionally, The Lead Counsel Review Board contacts every applicant’s state bar to make sure the applicant has never been disciplined for unethical behavior.

To promptly return clients’ telephone calls and e-mails.

To discuss clients’ objectives and strategies for representation.

To treat clients’ information with the utmost confidentiality, handle client matters with the highest degree of ethical conduct and always comply with the Rules of Professional Conduct.

To remain in good standing with any bar association in any jurisdiction in which the attorney is admitted to practice.

To represent clients competently and diligently.

R

To thoroughly explain to clients their rights and legal obligations.

R

To keep clients informed and provide clients with copies of all pleadings, correspondence and case related materials.

To charge a reasonable fee and explain in advance how the fee will be computed and billed.

To stay current in the practice area for which you are Verified by taking relevant continuing education courses as required by your state bar association.

Verified attorneys commit to notifying the Lead Counsel Review Board immediately should any status change in their practices that may influence eligibility.Finally, an annual review of an attorney's qualifications is conducted in order to confirm eligibility. Should an attorney fail to meet any of the qualifications, the Verification is immediately revoked.
