HP Showcases Technology to Help Federal Agencies Transform IT Environments

HP today announced technology solutions designed to help U.S. federal agencies manage and transform their IT environments to optimize outcomes, lower costs, increase security and mitigate risks.

Highlights of the offerings on display at FOSE 2007 include HP Virtual Connect, a prototype of the HP Common Access Card solution, the HP Teleworking solution and HP desktop PCs configurable to meet ENERGY STARr 4.0 hardware standards.

At the expo, HP will showcase a comprehensive technology portfolio for federal agencies, including consolidation services, data warehousing, data center management, security, computing and imaging and printing solutions. The company will demonstrate more than 25 solutions and products at its booth and will host 22 unique educational sessions to explain how HP can help the federal sector across its complex infrastructure and service needs.

HP Virtual Connect

The recently launched HP Virtual Connect Ethernet and Fibre Channel virtualization models for HP BladeSystem c-Class bolster HP’s Adaptive Infrastructure offering, which is designed to help customers move towards a 24×7, “lights out” data center.

Virtual Connect is designed to dramatically simplify network connectivity and common server management tasks across the data center by enabling administrators for the first time to wire just once and then add, replace or recover servers on the fly. In addition to lowering capital and operating costs, the modules deliver simplified management capabilities that reduce the time it takes to execute these actions from hours and days to a matter of minutes.

HP Common Access Card solution

HP unveiled a prototype of its Common Access Card solution, which enables secure imaging and printing network authentication for public sector employees. Developed in response to the Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 to improve security, the solution includes enhancements to current and future multifunction print devices to support common access card capabilities. These include mandatory identification, physical and logical access capabilities, public key infrastructure authentication, encryption and digital signing certificates.

The Common Access Card solution is part of HP’s portfolio of imaging and printing offerings that streamline information workflows, optimize infrastructures and better manage secured networked printing environments and improve their workflows.

HP Teleworking solution

The HP Teleworking solution, also launched at FOSE, encompasses notebooks and services that address federal agencies’ security needs and enable employees to work from a remote environment. Employees participating in federal teleworking programs are able to save money on transportation and increase their productivity and morale. In addition, disabled employees have the opportunity to pursue positions within various federal agencies.

Since security is a key concern with teleworking initiatives, HP provides a comprehensive portfolio of security features to protect notebooks, data and network connections, including the TPM Embedded Security Chip, Smart Card Reader, the HP Biometric Fingerprint Sensor and the HP Privacy Filter – a built-to-fit security filter that narrows the viewing angle with no blurring or image distortion so the screen is only visible to the user.

ENERGY STAR 4.0 desktop PCs

HP also showcased the industry’s first business PCs configurable to meet the hardware standards of ENERGY STAR 4.0 – the new, stringent energy-efficiency specification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The HP Compaq dc5750 and dc7700 business desktop PCs are also the first desktops from a major PC manufacturer to offer 80 percent efficient power supplies, which are better for the environment and help customers reduce energy costs.
