Jenna Lyons' Divorce: J. Crew Exec's Ugly Court Battle
Jenny Lyons' divorce from her husband Vincent Mazeau has probably captured the attention of budding fashionistas everywhere. For those not familiar with the exec, Jenna Lyons is the millionaire head of J. Crew. She's also known for her chic style.
She once even gave Oprah a tour of her closet, which contained many goodies that most girls would only dare dream of owning.
As it turns out, the drama in the fashion biz isn't just contained to the catwalk. Lyons divorce from Mazeau is a far from pretty.
She's rumored to be in a lesbian relationship with another woman. He claims he gave up his career. She claims she supported him financially. And at the center: a custody battle for their five-year-old son Beckett.
And yes, her son Beckett is the little boy featured in the J. Crew ad that sparked the controversy dubbed "Toemaggedon," according to the New York Post. In that ad, Beckett is seen smiling and laughing as his mother paints his toenails neon pink.
The picture might have sparked a scandal, but it's probably a portrait of a happier time in Lyons' life.
Mazeau and Lyons' split will mean they'll be dividing up their fortune. In community property states, all property that is part of the "community" is divided equally and each spouse is handed half. New York, however, is not a community property state but is an equitable distribution state.
Equitable distribution works by dividing up property in a way that the state deems fair, valid and just. So Jenna Lyons and her husband will have to work out some sort of agreement to split up their assets. If they can't come to an agreement amicably, Lyons' divorce will end up in front of a judge. The judge will then try to hammer out a distribution plan. And if the two exes don't come up with a custody agreement, the court might need to make that decision as well.
