'The Office's' Craig Robinson Busted With Pot, Ecstasy
"The Office" star Craig Robinson was arrested in the Bahamas for possession of pot and ecstasy. The Bahamas may be known as a mainstay for laid-back partiers, but Robinson tested his good vibes luck a little too far when he tried to board a plane with half a gram of marijuana and 18 ecstasy pills.
Unfortunately for the comedic actor -- who was in the Bahamas for the comedy show -- he couldn't wriggle himself out of this jam with a smooth one-liner because getting arrested abroad is no joke.
Big Brother Can't Bail You Out
When you get into legal mischief abroad, the first step you usually take is to contact the local United States Embassy or Consulate, or, if detained, request that they be notified of your detainment.
However, the assistance U.S. Consular Officers can provide a detained American citizen is pretty limited.
For example, officers would be able to contact Robinson's family, help him find an attorney and make sure he's being treated fairly in accordance with international treaties and local laws. But they could not demand his release.
Celebrity Treatment
Robinson pleaded guilty to two counts of drug possession when he appeared pro se (translation: without an attorney) before a magistrate, reports The Associated Press.
Whether it's the Bahamas or the U.S., trying to smuggle drugs onto a plane is a serious offense. But then there's "celebrity law."
Though Robinson faced up to four years in prison, Robinson walked away with a $1,000 fine -- otherwise known as a celebrity slap on the wrist. To put it lightly, "Darryl Philbin" lucked out big time.
Meth(od) Acting?
This isn't the first time Robinson's had a drug-related run-in with the law. In June 2008, police arrested Robinson in Culver City, California on suspicion of possessing MDMA -- a variant of ecstasy -- and methamphetamine. The charges were later dismissed after he completed a diversion program, reports The AP.
Maybe this is all a huge method acting misunderstanding? He was in "Pineapple Express" after all.
