Report: Police Seek Search Warrant re Tiger Woods Crash

By Minara El-Rahman on November 30, 2009 | Last updated on March 21, 2019

There has been much speculation about what precipitated the recent Tiger Woods crash.

TMZ now reports that the Florida Highway Patrol is attempting to obtain a search warrant that will enable them to access medical records from the hospital that tended to Tiger Woods after his car accident. The Tiger Woods crash raises questions due to statements that alcohol was not involved. Since there was no alcohol involved, the Florida Highway Patrol wants to investigate what exactly caused the Tiger Woods crash.

Rumors of domestic abuse are swirling around Tiger Woods and his wife Elin Nordegren. According to TMZ, she allegedly confronted him about rumors of an affair. TMZ speculates that Elin followed Tiger Woods out of the house and struck his car with a golf club.

Rumors that Woods had been taking prescription pain killers have TMZ speculating that suspicion of DUI could also be a reason police want his hospital records.

As police seek Woods' hospital records, many are wondering what charges might possibly be in play.

What is Domestic Violence?

Domestic violence refers to physical harm inflicted on one member of a household or family, by another member of the same household or family (usually between spouses).

Domestic violence (sometimes called "spousal abuse") usually involves repetitive physical and psychological abuse, and a "cycle of violence". While women are typically the victims of domestic violence, men can be victims too.

Can Elin be Criminally Charged if She Did Attack Tiger Woods?

Specific crimes charged vary based on 1) severity of the victim's injuries, 2) whether a minor was present, and 3) whether a protective or restraining order was violated.

In this case, the Florida Highway Patrol only has to consider the extent of Tiger Woods' injuries if there was domestic violence present.

What About Tiger?

Tiger Woods was reportedly taking prescription pain medication which could have caused the star athlete to crash his vehicle. He was reportedly in and out of consciousness. The Florida Highway Patrol also wants to obtain a warrant to see if the Tiger Woods crash could have been caused by the medication. That could be evidence of a DUI.

While the causes of Tiger Woods crash are still unknown, one thing for certain is that the Florida Highway Patrol would like to get to the bottom of this.
