Tony Parker Sues NYC Club Over Drake / Chris Brown Brawl
A French national who plays for the San Antonio Spurs is probably the last person you'd expect to get hurt in a fight between a rapper and an R&B star over another pop star, but that's what happened last week. Now Tony Parker is suing the New York City club where the Chris Brown/Drake fight happened, blaming security for injuries he allegedly suffered.
It does not appear that either Chris Brown or Drake were named in the lawsuit, according to CBS New York.
As you may have heard, Chris Brown and Drake ended up at the W.i.P club in SoHo last week. It's rumored that Brown sent to Drake's table a bottle of pricey champagne. Instead of accepting the gift, Drake allegedly sent it back with the note: "I am f***ing the love of your life," according to the New York Post. The love of Chris Brown's life is a reference to pop singer Rihanna.
Towards the end of the night, as Brown's crew was leaving, Drake's entourage apparently stopped them and that's when the brawl and bottle-throwing erupted, reports CBS.
At that time, Tony Parker was also at the club and got caught up in the melee. He allegedly got hit with a bottle and ended up with a scratched cornea. In his lawsuit, Tony Parker is suing the club for $20 million alleging negligence for not providing adequate security and supervision. But why would a club be liable for the thuggish acts of love-torn rappers?
Well, if you operate a nightclub or any other place of business, you owe a duty to keep your patrons safe. For a department store, it'd be reasonable to make sure your floors are not wet and slippery. And for a nightclub that fuels rappers with alcohol into the early morning hours, it'd be reasonable to expect that they'd provide adequate security to handle a major brawl.
In response to Tony Parker's suit against the NYC club over the Chris Brown/Drake fight, the club may try to counter that a brawl between two rappers over Rihanna was completely unforesseable. We'll have to wait and see what defense, if any, the club asserts.
