Young Jeezy Sued Over Concert No-Show

By Stephanie Rabiner, Esq. on June 28, 2011 | Last updated on March 21, 2019

Things aren't looking so great for Young Jeezy.

Sued by Paid 4 Entertainment, concert promoters for a music festival in the Virgin Islands, the member of hip hop group United Streets Dopeboyz of America may be on the hook for $75,000.

He reportedly failed to show up for his gig even though Paid 4 claims it went to great lengths to get him there.

Born Jay Wayne Jenkins, HipHop DX reports that the lawsuit, which was filed in the U.S. Virgin Islands, alleges that Young Jeezy reneged on a contract to perform at Summer Splash 2011, a yearly music festival featuring hip hop, Caribbean, and reggae artists.

When he told promoters two weeks before the event that he might have a conflict, TMZ reports that they renegotiated to allow him to appear the next day, even sending a jet to pick him up and deliver him to the Islands.

He never showed up for his flight.

The U.S. Virgin Islands, by means of legislation, follow the common law principles that we adhere to within the 50 states.

Under traditional common law contract doctrine, it appears as though Young Jeezy impermissibly breached his contract with Paid 4 Entertainment.

His agreement to perform on the following day likely modified his original contract, which means that he had a legal obligation to show up and perform.

Despite this, it's unclear how a Virgin Islands court will deal with Young Jeezy. Sued for $75,000, he may be held responsible for all of it or none of it, depending on how the courts determine awards.
