Parolee Accused of Cheating Drug Test with a Cash Bribe
Bribing a state lab worker with $300 is probably not the smartest way to pass a drug test.
Using a "Whizzinator" is probably not a bright idea either.
A 34-year-old Colorado parolee found this out the hard way and could be headed back to prison. He was on parole for a 2007 menacing conviction.
According to the Associated Press, police said the man tried to bribe a state worker to allow him to use a "Whizzinator" to pass a drug test he had to take while on parole. The device is made of tubing and heater packs attached to a prosthetic penis sold to cheat drug tests.
The caseworker took the device, and the man left.
In Colorado, medical marijuana laws allow convicted criminals to get cards, but those on parole still must pass drug tests.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, a caseworker became suspicious about the man's urine sample after he tried to block the worker's view while he was providing his sample.
The man was seen wearing the "Whizzinator" and allegedly offered the state worker $300, then $500, to throw away the device. The worker turned down the offer.
The man told parole officials he smoked marijuana on New Year's Day, the anniversary of his father's death, saying he was having trouble dealing with it.
The man now faces felony bribery charges and is being held in the Mesa County Jail.
The severity of bribery can reach the felony level, punishable by a fine or imprisonment, or both as could happen in this case.
