Woman Stole Identity, Credit Cards for Bigger Breast Implants

By Jason Beahm | Last updated on

One time my credit card number got stolen and the thief used it to spend $2.19 at Taco Bell, after first stopping in for a manicure. I thought that was kind of weird. True story.

But of course, this post isn't about me. It's about breast implants, which are always exciting.

Especially when they are acquired by ill gotten means, or when someone is trying to repossess them from their ex-girlfriend.

In the case of Shatarka Nuby, 29, her quest for bigger breast implants took a turn to the dark side, and now she's forced to pay the price. Nuby was sentenced to two and a half years in federal prison after pleading guilty to aggravated identity theft as well as credit card fraud. She was facing as many as seven years in a federal penitentiary, in part due to several prior convictions.

Shatarka Nuby admitted to charging approximately $20,000 in credit card bills on five cards she opened in the name of an aspiring college student, the Sun-Sentinel reports. She had argued that the theft was by necessity as her current implants were giving her breathing problems.

Nuby also said she had been addicted to Ecstasy and depressed, NBC Miami reports. Nuby apologized before U.S. District Judge William J. Zloch sentenced her. "I just want to get this behind me and get back to my kids," said Nuby, who has three children.

Under identity theft laws it is a crime to misuse another person's identifying information. Thieves frequently obtain personal information by gaining access to the victim's information from government and financial entities. They also do so by acquiring lost or stolen mail, wallets, purses, identification, and credit or debit cards. In the case of Shatarka Nuby, she admitted to paying a friend for the stolen identity information.

It seems this isn't the first time this has happened in South Florida. According to the Sun-Sentinel, a Fort Lauderdale woman tried a similar scheme last year, stealing a woman's identity for a tummy tuck. I'm pretty sure it happened in an episode on Nip/Tuck as well. I'll have to get back to you on that.
