Judges, Scholars, and Lawyers Come Together for Your Civil Litigation Needs

By Casey C. Sullivan, Esq. on December 13, 2016 | Last updated on March 21, 2019

Some of California's leading judges and attorneys are coming together for an exceptional CLE event this February. Civil Litigation Challenges: Excelling in the "Big League," presented by The Rutter Group and the California Judges Association (disclosure: The Rutter Group is part of Thomson Reuters, FindLaw's parent company), will feature a California Supreme Court justice, multiple superior and appellate court judges, lawyers from the nation's leading firms, and everyone's favorite law school dean and legal scholar, Erwin Chemerinsky.

It's a rare opportunity to learn from -- and rub elbows with -- some of the West Coast's top legal minds.

Big Names for a Big Event

The Civil Litigation Challenges event takes place February 25th at the Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City and is worth seven MCLE credits, but you're not here for the credits. You're here for the presenters. And this is quite an impressive roster of presenters, what the Rutter Group aptly calls "an all-star faculty of judges and attorneys."

The program chair, for example, is Presiding Justice Lee Smalley Edmon of the California Court of Appeal, 2nd District, Division 3. Justice Edmon joined the appellate court in January, 2015, after serving as a judge on the Los Angeles Superior Court in the Complex Civil Litigation department. She is a master of all things civil procedure, having been an author on the most recent edition of The Rutter Group's "California Practice Guide: Civil Procedure Before Trial."

Justice Edmon will be joined by U.C. Irvine Law School's founding dean, Erwin Chemerinsky. Chemerinsky isn't just the founder of a law school, of course. He's also one of the nation's leading legal scholars, having published 10 books, more than 200 law review articles, and endless articles, columns, and op-eds. As smart as he is prolific, Chemerinsky is America's second most cited legal scholar and will be giving a keynote speech on the 2016 election and the future of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Learn From the Best -- and Network With Them Too

That's just the start of the list. California Supreme Court Justice Carol A. Corrigan will be presenting, as will judges from the state appellate courts, Los Angeles and San Francisco superior courts, and partners with firms like Gibson Dunn and Skadden.

Attendees will benefit from these presenter's legal guidance on complex civil litigation issues, including evidence, expert witnesses, appellate practice, and more. But those who sign up for Civil Litigation Challenges: Excelling in the "Big League," will also have the chance to interact with the event's faculty face to face as well. They'll be plenty of time to "meet and mingle" with the panelists during the event, according to The Rutter Group.

If that sounds good to you, you can sign up now to attend. Those who enroll on or before February 3rd get $100 off the tuition price.
